At L’Etranger, our philosophy is that perfect food must be accompanied by perfect wine in order to complete any occasion.
As Louis Pasteur once said “A meal without wine is like a day without sunshine”.
“Les Vins de L’Etranger” is headed up by L’Etranger Restaurant Director Ibi Issolah, working in partnership with our Head Sommelier. Together they created what is “Surely one of the best wine-lists in the capital” (Good Food Guide 2009), achieving 2 goblets from Wine Spectator Magazine in 2006, 2007 and 2008.
At L’Etranger, ourhead sommelier ensures that all of your needs and wants are catered for, regardless of budget. Food and wine pairing plays an instrumental role in the daily running of the restaurant, with the Sommelier team attending regular tastings in search of those unique and rare wines, new ideas for the marriage between food and wine yet ensuring that they maintain a firm grip on the more “classical” ideas, such as the Krug and Caviar platter that is offered in the restaurant.
With a wine list sporting over 1,000 bins, wines can be found from countries as diverse as Brazil and Turkey, yet maintaining strong links with more established countries, in particular France, Italy, Australia and The United States of America.
During these events, he works closely with our Head Chef, Kingshuk Dey, to create a menu designed to work with the wines that are being shown at the table, with the winemaker personally guiding you through each wine as it is being served.
So come, join us in a toast to Bacchus, for there is no such thing as strangers, only friends that you haven’t yet met.
