The Michelin Guide 2009
The accents found within L'Etranger would suggest your classic French restaurant but one coup d'oeil at the menu and you'll see that alongside words like magret and assiette come others like tempura and teppanyaki. Asia exerts quite an influence on the cooking but the kitchen's main selling point is  marriage between the cuisines of France & Japan. So you will find a delicacy and precision to the food as well as an impressive wine list. This is also a neighbourhood restaurant whose band of sophisticated regulars are a loyal bunch. Their reward is a menu section marked 'favourites' - popular dishes that the chef dare not take off, such as his own take on black cod with miso. The lighting is moody, the music a little loungey and the vibe, friendly.

The AA Restaurant Guide 2009
'Chic, sophisticated and elegant...Service is professional, attentive and gallic'.

The Good Food Guide 2009 (Which?)
'The restaurant s aptly avant-garde and sophisticated, the interiors decorated in subtle lilac and grey...Service by charming girls and a very knowledgeable young sommelier is immaculate'.

Time Out Eating & Drinking Guide 2009
'The concise, unflashy but breathtakingly good main courses of turbot with lemongrass crumbs, and melting lamb with baked aubergine and onion confit, sealed Tauvron's reputation. It deserves to spread beyond London's Francophile neighbourhood'.

Zagat Survey 2008 - Food 24; Decor 18; Service 21 "Wonderfully inventive" and "stylishly presented", "the cooking is an unusual blend of French sophistication with an Asian twist".

Time Out Eating & Drinking Guide 2008
'L'Etranger is a different kind of animal. From the moment you walk through the door, service is sublime. So it should be at these prices. The great draw is Jerome Tauvron's wonderfully slick East-West menu, which stretches from Magret de Canard to Wagyu Beef...'.

We really enjoyed our meal (with 50% off food offer) - service was attentive, restaurant was stylish, and the food was lovely. The crispy squid rings were the best we have ever had!

L'Etranger in Kensington was absolutely lovely. I would thoroughly recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants that slightly more special meal out. We dined with the 50% off offer, which made it a great price for amazing food - it would be very expensive without this offer. The food was gorgeous, I would recommend the Black Cod with Miso as a main and the chocolate fondue as a dessert (best to share though as it's huge)! The interior was very nicely done and the wine stock was very impressive!

Tens across the board for L'Etranger. I will be recommending this place to everybody. The staff were fantastic, the food possibly the best I have ever eaten, and the wine list had me drooling. Where in London can you order a bottle of 1979 Pomerol and pay only £45? The place has quality written through it. We dined on the Top Table offer. I will be going back even after the offer expires. I'm so glad I found this place. Worth trekking out West!AB

I have to say L'etranger is great. The french / japanese fusion workd really well. We started with a glass of Saki to accompany our starter - (tuna rolls and the tuna tartare - both exceptional) and then a nice glass of riesling for our main (blackened cod as good as Nobu and honey glazed duck - superb). We also asked if we could go to Opal (the bar it was twinned with) and got in on a Friday night no problem - they even took our coats down and put them in for us.

Staff were every warm and welcoming. The sommelier was obviously very knowledgeable but not overbearing or obtrusive. For a special occasion, you should certainly consider here. We had the taster menu, it was fab.

London Eating Diners

A refreshing French restaurant with a Japanese twist!

I visit the restaraunt regularily (most recently 4 days ago). It has almost aways been a really good expereince, and when there is the occasional mis-step (too much wasabi in the beef tartare) they work hard on putting it right. The cuisine is interesting with a wonderful combination of French and Japanese dishes. I am a caviare fan and they serve it perfectly. The sashimi, the black cod and the lamb are other favorites. Deserts have been great too. It would be good if the menu evolved a bit more over time.Service is very friendly and I love the way they remember what you like the next time you visit. It is always busy and bustling with a friendly relaxed crowd.
